While it’s only right to celebrate the moments when historical anarchists valiantly tussled with capitalism and colonialism, we also need to own up to our predecessors’ (and our contemporaries’) mistakes, be they regarding colonialism, work, militarism, or anything else. Facing up to these mistakes is the only way to truly push forward as a movement.
La montée du fascisme et la dynamique génocidaire sont liées. La guerre de 14-18 a engendré une brutalité qui a favorisé le fascisme et le nazisme. Aujourd’hui aux Etats-Unis, il y a des voix qui n’hésitent pas à traiter la gauche et les progressistes d’« inhumains » et dont les intentions génocidaires ne sont pas voilées, en faisant explicitement l’apologie des « tueries » de Franco et de Pinochet.
Capital has lost its patience with keeping unneeded working-class people alive. Notably in the very center of advanced capital and so-called liberal democracies (“the West”). Any and all social policies that even minimally address the needs of the unneeded working class—social housing, welfare, shelters, disability benefits, harm reduction, etc.)—are drains on accumulation. They are, from capital’s perspective, wasted resources, unacceptable costs—at a time when capital needs to squeeze out all it can get.
Can the climate justice movement stop global warming? No, it can not. To do that it would have to be able to destroy capitalism. This objective, however, is hardly even on the agenda for most climate activists, and if it were they wouldn’t have an inkling about a strategy for doing so. Hardly anyone does nowadays. If a movement can’t even identify the root cause of a problem, how can it possibly solve it?
Au cours des dernières décennies, aux États-Unis, des personnes salariées du bas de l’échelle, dans ce type de services – surtout des femmes, des immigrants et des immigrantes, des sans-papiers – se sont mobilisés pour exercer leur droit d’association, pour obtenir des salaires décents, pour se faire reconnaître la pleine citoyenneté, mêlant donc luttes politiques et luttes économiques, sur une base territoriale (une ville, le plus souvent).
